Digital Monster virtual pet 20th anniversary countdown website launched

The official Digimon website has launched a countdown website for the 20th anniversary of the “Digital Monster,” the virtual pet toy that spawned the Digimon franchise.

The Digital Monster was released in 1997 by Bandai as the male counterpart to the Tamagotchi, which was deemed more appropriate for girls. The game consists of feeding, training, battling, and cleaning up after a virtual pet.

The countdown on the teaser page end on January 6, 2017 at 10:00 JST. The website doesn’t share further information, but the latest issue of V-Jump does clarify that a 20th anniversary project for the toy has begun and that we’ll get details next month.
